Who are the least green celebrities?
July 5th, 2008 by
It is easy to get carried away with all these celebrities jumping on the big green bandwagon. Some publications enjoy running features pointing out hypocrites. The Chicago Tribune however, has taken another track, they have simply run a feature highlighting the 8 least-green celebrities. The list includes many of the usual suspects (John Travolta, Celine Dion and Madonna) along with a few new culprits including David and Victoria Beckham, Tiger Woods, Bill Gates and Elizabeth Hurley).
Liz Hurley’s wedding was my personal favourite:
Best Foot Forward, an environmental footprint impact consulting company, reported that the couple’s wedding had resulted in producing more than 200 tons of carbon dioxide. How? The wedding celebration lasted two weeks and took place in four cities on two continents. Many of the guests were flown to each location in Lear jets.
The surprise entry of the list is probably Al Gore. Al Gore was included following reports early this year of his massive energy use. His inclusion hasn’t impressed EarthFirst, who offer this explanation.
Yes, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, a bunk-ass right wing organization that refuses to disclose its funding sources, wrote a scathing report on energy use at Gore’s Tennessee home. That report didn’t bother to reveal the fact that during the period reported on, extensive renovations to make the home more green were in progress - hence the extra energy use – as well as the fact that Gore offsets 100% of that energy use. Gore and wife Tipper both work from home, as well, so energy use is bound to be higher than ‘the average person in the area’.
