Monitor your household electricity usage with the OWL Wireless Energy Monitor

August 8th, 2008 by sara

Tracy Stokes at EcoStreet has blogged about a great offer on an OWL Wireless Energy Monitor. The monitor clips on to your electricity supplies and will give readings on how much electricity usage per hour. A great practical example comes in the comments on the EthicalSuperStore website:

I was able to understand that with all appliances switched off (that’s those which could be – I was leaving the fridge and freezer on) my consumption was around 3p per hour. Before going to bed however I was regularly noticing a reading of about 8p per hour.

A quick check in the rooms of my teens and subsequent removal of phones and mp3 players from charge, coupled with the unplugging of pc’s and games consoles seemed to remedy the situation. I’m guessing this could save me around 40p per day and paying back the OWL in 125 days.

There are other options available for monitoring your home energy consumption, namely the Efertgy and the Wattson, but at £39.95 and £99.95 respectively, this is the most affordable and effective home energy meter we’ve seen in a while. The current price offer of the OWL Wireless Energy Monitor is £29.95 lasts until the 18th August. You can buy one here.
