Amazon adds a Green Category, but not in the UK

Yesterday Amazon launched a green category of products. The new category includes plenty of green products in fields such as Green Media, Homes & Garden, Toys & Baby and even Grocery & Household. The new green section asks visitors to seek out and highlight products on their site which they consider green.

Also featured on the new section of Amazon, is a unique feature titled Your Green 3. The idea is for visitors to pick 3 green products from a variety of websites which you wish everyone had. These are then compiled into the Green 3 Frontrunners on the right. Interestingly, the top 3 products right now is the Reusable Grocery Tote Bag, The Globe 13-Watt Ultra-Mini Compact Fluorescent Spiral Bulb and the 23 watt bulb.

This idea might also prove popular with retailers, as the site lists the most searched for terms. Ranking highly are most of the usual suspects including Bamboo, Organic Baby and Low Flow.

This is a nice approach to finding green products, and the Green section includes plenty more information about green products, some nice ideas and even a new green blog.

Unfortunately, this does not seem to be available to UK shoppers. I’ve e-mailed Amazon asking for a likely UK date, and will let you know of the response.
